Details

This is an estimate. Figures assume good management, normal temperatures and healthy chicks. Your own breed chart and your feed mill guidance are final. Mortality and feed conversion vary farm to farm.

How to use

  1. Enter the number of day-old chicks placed and your target sale day (35 or 42).
  2. Enter your current feed price per 50 kg bag and a spillage allowance.
  3. Read the week-by-week chart to order feed in time, and check cost per bird.

Note: Phase split guidance — Starter weeks 1 to 2, Grower weeks 3 to 4, Finisher week 5 until sale day. Keep feeders at beak height and give clean water at all times.

Tips

  • Feed is 60 to 70 percent of broiler cost — buy in bulk when cash flow allows.
  • Weigh a sample of birds weekly; slow growth usually means poor feed quality or disease, not less feed.
  • Store bags off the floor in a dry room; damp feed loses nutrition and grows mould.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How much feed does a broiler eat in 35 days?

About 3.2 kg per bird by day 35 under standard Ross 308 guidance with good management; the tool shows the week-by-week intake table.

How many 50 kg bags do I need for 1000 chicks?

Enter 1000 chicks, select 35 or 42 days, and the tool converts total feed kg into 50 kg bags plus spillage allowance and total cost.

What are starter, grower and finisher feeds?

Feeding phases by age: starter for weeks 1 to 2, grower for weeks 3 to 4, and finisher from week 5 until sale day.

How does the spillage allowance work?

Enter a spillage and wastage percentage, and the tool adds it on top of the calculated feed to give a realistic bag count and cost.

Are these figures exact for my farm?

No. The tool assumes good management, normal temperatures, and healthy chicks. Your breed chart and feed mill guidance are final, since mortality and feed conversion vary farm to farm.
