How the math works

  1. Grade points earned: current CGPA × completed hours = points you already have.
  2. Points needed for target: target CGPA × (completed hours + remaining hours) = total points the target requires.
  3. Points still needed: points needed − points earned = what you must score in the remaining courses.
  4. Required average GPA: points still needed ÷ remaining hours = the GPA you must average from now on.

Verdict rule: if the required GPA is above 4.0 the target is impossible on a 4.0 scale. If it is 3.8 or above it is very hard. Below 3.8 it is achievable with steady work. If it is zero or negative, your target is already secured.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I calculate the GPA I need to reach my target CGPA?

Enter your current CGPA, the credit hours you have completed, your target CGPA, and the credit hours you still have left. The tool multiplies your current CGPA by completed hours to get earned grade points, subtracts that from the total points needed for your target, and divides the difference by your remaining hours. That gives the average GPA you need from now on.

What does it mean if the required GPA is over 4.0?

A required GPA above 4.0 means the target is impossible on a 4.0 scale, because no grades can average above the maximum. The tool marks this as impossible and suggests lowering the target or increasing the remaining credit hours.

Can this tool handle a negative required GPA?

If the required GPA comes out negative, you have already earned more than enough grade points to hit your target. The tool explains that the target is already secured, even with low grades in the remaining courses.

Does this planner work for any 4.0 scale university?

Yes, as long as your institution uses a 4.0 scale where CGPA is the average of grade points weighted by credit hours. It works for Pakistani universities and most other 4.0 scale systems.
