How it works
An exponent means multiplying the base by itself a certain number of times. A negative exponent means first finding the positive power, then taking its reciprocal (1 ÷ result). A fractional exponent of 0.5 means square root, and 1/3 means cube root.
Example 1: 210 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 1024.
Example 2: 2-2 = 1 ÷ 2² = 1 ÷ 4 = 0.25. And 90.5 = √9 = 3.
