Htpasswd Generator
Create entries for an Apache .htpasswd file — to protect a directory with a password. The hash is made in your browser only; your password is never sent anywhere.
Apache 2.4 supports both. $apr1$ is more secure.
Each entry is added on a new line — you can build a file with many users.
How to use
- Type a username and password (or press Random).
- Choose the hash algorithm and press "Generate Entry".
- Copy the entry or download the full
.htpasswdfile. - Use it in Apache with
AuthUserFileandRequire valid-user.
Tips
- Store the .htpasswd file outside your public web folder if possible.
- Usernames cannot contain a space or a colon.
- The $apr1$ option works on almost all Apache versions.
- You can add many users — each entry goes on its own line.
