Body stage timeline

  • 0–4 hours: Your body is digesting your last meal. Blood sugar and insulin gradually fall.
  • 4–8 hours: Digestion finishes. The body starts using stored energy and fat burning begins.
  • 8–12 hours: Stored sugar (glycogen) is being used up. Many people notice hunger coming and going.
  • 12–16 hours: Fat burning increases as the main energy source. Focus often improves.
  • 16–24 hours: The body runs mostly on fat. Repair and cleanup processes become more active.
  • 24+ hours: Extended fasting. Only continue with experience and proper care; drink plenty of water.
