Tips

  • Left Shift and Right Shift report different locations — useful for testing both sides.
  • On laptops, the Fn key usually does not produce any key event, so it will not show here.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I test a key?

Click the grey box to focus it, then press any key on your keyboard. Its name, code, keyCode and location appear instantly in the result boxes.

What does the Location field show?

It shows where the key sits: left side, right side, numpad or standard. Left Shift and Right Shift report different locations, which helps you test both sides.

What is the key press history?

A log of the last 20 keys you pressed, newest first. Use the Clear history button to start fresh.

Why does pressing the Fn key show nothing?

On laptops, the Fn key usually does not produce a key event, so the browser cannot see it. A key that shows nothing may also be broken or intercepted by your operating system.
