Matrix Calculator

Choose the matrix size and operation, enter the values of A and B — the result matrix and the dot-product steps for multiplication are shown.

Matrix A (for 2x2, leave the third row/column empty and select size 2)

Matrix B (for 2x2, leave the third row/column empty and select size 2)

How to use

  1. First select the size (2x2 or 3x3) and the operation.
  2. Enter values in the Matrix A and B boxes; an empty box is treated as 0.
  3. The result appears below as a matrix.

Note: In multiplication, the rows of A multiply the columns of B, so A x B and B x A are usually not equal. In 2x2 mode the third row/column is ignored.

Tips

  • Empty boxes count as 0, so you can skip entering zeros.
  • Matrix multiplication needs matching inner dimensions — columns of A must equal rows of B.
  • Use the steps shown to learn the method, not just the answer.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What does the matrix calculator do?

It adds, subtracts, multiplies and transposes matrices of size 2x2 or 3x3.

Which operations are supported?

A + B, A − B, A × B, transpose of A and transpose of B.

How do I enter a matrix?

Select the size (2x2 or 3x3) and type values into the Matrix A and B boxes. For 2x2, leave the third row and column empty and select size 2.

Is A times B the same as B times A?

No. Matrix multiplication is not commutative, so the tool computes exactly the order you choose and shows the dot-product steps.
