Step-by-step application process

  1. Check gas availability: Confirm with the gas company office or helpline that a gas pipeline passes near your house. If there is no pipeline, a new connection cannot be installed.
  2. Get the application form: Collect the new connection form from the nearest SNGPL or SSGC customer service center, or download it from the company website.
  3. Attach the documents: Attach all documents from the checklist above and submit the form at the customer service center.
  4. Survey visit: A survey team visits your premises to check the distance from the gas main and decides the service line route.
  5. Demand notice: The company issues a demand notice showing the security deposit and charges. Pay it at the designated bank before the due date.
  6. Installation: The gas company lays the service line and installs the meter at your premises.
  7. Safety inspection: Your internal gas piping (done by you) is inspected for leaks and safety. Only after it passes do you get gas supply. Get internal piping done by a qualified plumber and use quality GI or approved pipes.

Timeline expectations

  • Survey visit: usually within 1 to 2 weeks of submitting the application.
  • Demand notice: normally issued a few weeks after the survey.
  • Installation: starts after you pay the demand notice and can take 2 to 6 weeks, depending on workload and distance.
  • Delays happen where new domestic connections are suspended by government policy — always check the current status on the SNGPL or SSGC helpline.

Safety inspection note

  • The company inspector checks your internal gas line for leaks before opening the supply.
  • Use only approved pipes and fittings, and keep the meter area clear and reachable.
  • Never tamper with the meter or the service line — it is a punishable offence and can be dangerous.
  • If you smell gas, close the main valve, open the windows and call the gas company emergency helpline at once.
