How to use

  1. Add each product with its wholesale cost, planned retail price, and expected units sold.
  2. The table shows margin in rupees and percent for every product.
  3. The best and worst margins are highlighted so you can adjust prices.
  4. Check the weighted margin for the overall picture across all products.
  5. Press Export CSV to download the comparison for your records.

Tips

  • Use margin percent, not just rupees, to compare a Rs 50 item with a Rs 5,000 item fairly.
  • Set expected units honestly — the weighted margin only helps if the volumes are realistic.
  • If one product has a very low or negative margin, it may work as a loss leader only if it pulls sales of high-margin items.
  • Re-run the comparison whenever wholesale costs change, since margins shift silently.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How is the margin calculated?

Margin in rupees is the retail price minus the wholesale cost. Margin percent is that rupee margin divided by the retail price, multiplied by 100.

What is the weighted overall margin?

It combines all products by their expected units. Each product contributes its margin rupees times its units, and the percent is that total margin divided by total revenue across all products.

How are the best and worst margins highlighted?

The tool finds the product with the highest margin percent and marks it as the best margin, and the one with the lowest margin percent as the worst margin, so you can rebalance prices quickly.

Can I save or export my comparison?

Yes. Press Export CSV to download a spreadsheet with every product, its cost, price, units, margin rupees and margin percent, plus the overall weighted margin row.
